The lamp was presented to Central Park in 1979 as a symbol of friendship and goodwill between New York City and Hamburg. The cast-iron lamppost, though hollow, weighs 1,320 pounds and supports the lamp, which consists of five globes. The shadows on the cherubs and garlands drew me to it as a subject. The values, going from dark to lighter, on the foliage behind the lamp really helped set it off.
